Where to stay in Barcelona?

There’s no such thing as a best place to stay in Barcelona. It really depends on the area you want to explore and, of course, your budget. Barcelona is a big city with lots of things to do in different areas, so you’ll probably end up taking the public transport at some point. Also, the district where you choose to stay will depend on the type of trip you’re looking for. It’s not the same if you come to Barcelona because you want to enjoy the nightlife or if you come because you want to wake up early and explore the city by foot.

If it’s your first time in Barcelona and you’ve no idea about the districts and their location, take a look at our guide where you can find all the info. After reading it, you’ll have a better picture of Barcelona and you’ll be able to decide where you want your accommodation to be located.

That being said, here you have some recommendations that will allow you to pick the most suitable area for you:

  • The Barri Gòtic is the most central part of the city and where you can find more hotels and budget accommodations. However, it’s also the busiest and noisiest part at night time, so if you’re looking for some relax this might not be the best part.
  • The centre of Barcelona (Eixample and Barri Gòtic) has the best connections to the airport. There’re many different options such as the metro, the bus or the train.
  • The metro works very well in Barcelona and the main districts (Eixample, Barri Gòtic) have very good transport connections. Other districts, such as Gràcia, La Barceloneta or El Born, don’t have that many metro stations, but have buses to move around.
  • If your idea of Barcelona is spending some time sunbathing at the beach every day, then you should sleep at La Barceloneta. It has a very active nightlife and it’s also near the city center.
